Let's tell you a few things before you start this final semester!
FIU can be difficult to navigate and graduation is no different.
Lets do a step by step:
Your first task is to confirm with your adviser that you can graduate. A simple dashboard message should suffice:

Once that's confirmed you should consider if you really want to walk for Graduation. This is a personal choice. While it is traditional it is not required. Do not think you need to walk if you do not want.
If you have elected to not attend commencement, you still must do one thing before you can walk away from FIU.
If you walk, or don't you still must go to: commencement.fiu.edu. Then you will look for the section that says "Apply for Graduation." Click it and proceed with the application. This will ensure you are able to graduate and receive your diploma.

And You'r Done!
That is, if you don't want to walk for graduation.
Walking for graduation is known as "Commencement" which if you see in the above picture you must register to attend. The registration process is easy enough. However, there are a few steps you must go through before commencement can begin.

Waiting for your date....
Remember FIU is a big school and hosts many thousands of students. The office of commencement may give you a period of days for when the ceremonies are, but there are many ceremonies over the course of the graduation weekend.
Be sure to wait and find out which is yours. If you are a double major, see which Major is listed first on Panther Degree Audit this is the ceremony you will attend. |
So we've applied, and got a date and time that's it right?
Ha, NO!
There are a few more things to do. Next step is attending the C-Fair or commencement fair which is held at various locations and times. This is mandatory if you want to attend commencement! Here you will pick up your commencement pass which you must hold onto until your graduation ceremony.
Additionally, this is where you will pick your cap and gown, as well as any "Stoles" you may have earned (a stole is a length of cord colored to correspond to a specific meaning i.e. graduating with honors, being a veteran etc.)
You do have to buy your cap and gown as well as some of your stoles and the like. The office of commencement prices are listed below:
Again this is a personal choice. You may want the $300 pack of the merely the cap and gown. Feel no pressure to buy anything specific!

Ok, we're done right?
Still no. Now that the C-Fair is done, you found out your dates and times and are registered you still need to get your tickets. You are given 2 for free, and then can purchase up to 5 additional.
Now...you are almost done
Now the moment you have spend all time waiting for. You must finally attend the Commencement Ceremony!
